Many lives of a Bottega Veneta dress

bottega-veneta-spring-summer-2013-dress

Bottega Veneta is my endless love story. And though I may never be able to wear every Bottega dress that I have fallen in love with, I will always enjoy collecting the photos from numerous editorials, re-living my dreams and savouring every detail.

From the research point of view – so curious to see how different countries and magazines make their choices. While the first dress was on demand in Italy, the floral numbers travelled all over the world, from Europe to the States, Mexico, Thailand and Japan reuniting in Russia half way through.

And Edie Campbell got to wear hers twice! I guess it’s a bit like meeting an old friend or colleague you’ve already done a shoot with. Only, unlike the dress that, for obvious reasons, cannot speak, the friend would definitely comment on Edie’s hair.

Linda Evangelista by Peter Lindbergh

Marriage made in heaven. Fashion photography in an art form. Linda Evangelista photographed by Peter Lindbergh for the December issue of Vogue Italia 1989. One of those perfect moments that made me fall in love with fashion.

Donna Karan Spring 2000

donna-karan-spring-2000-campaign-peter-lindbergh-3

When I was a teen, I declared that Donna Karan will be one of the designers I would wear. Even then her aesthetics appealed to me and, perhaps, influenced my style as it developed.

My love for her creations is obvious and I have a good reason for it –just like in case of Diane von Furstenberg, the clothes of a timeless quality are designed for women to be worn and truly enjoyed, in comfort and confidence. And they are so beautifully made!

As the next “fashion week” was approaching I found myself torn between two names, in a position of a parent trying to choose which child she loved the most… Donna Karan was, indeed, one of them. I hesitated, I lost sleep for a couple of days, as insane it may sound to some. And then I walked to my wardrobe, pulled out my Donna Karan dress and knew exactly what would happen next.

White jeans: a few tips and an outfit idea

harpers-bazaar-us-april-2010-jessica-stam

White jeans. The uniform of Liz Hurley, models and Parisian fashion editors and the nightmare for every girl who, how should I put it, can make the rocking world go round…

Nobody really cared about white jeans until Ines dedicated a whole chapter of her book to them turning le jean blanc into a fantasy, an epitome of casual chic, a garment that can make any woman feel a little bit like a mysterious Parisienne.

Curiously, the arrival of the white jeans broke practically every rule in a book of style tips. It turned out that there is a perfect pair of white jeans for every girl, whether she is super slim, curvy, tall or petite. My only tips, when looking for your ideal match, would be…

… sorting out the length - unless you do have long and flawless pins like Karolina Kurkova’s, go for the cropped types that hit your leg just above the ankle – this Paris model by MIH is absolutely perfect

… avoiding skin tight low cut version if you have curves

… wearing heels of reasonable height

… checking your reflection in a mirror, front AND back to ensure that you look beautiful from every angle.

Another brilliant thing about white jeans is how easy it is to use them as a transitional piece to move from winter into spring accompanied by a few other classics: a timeless cashmere Joseph gorgeousness that I picked from the selection of designer coats at Harrods, silk Michael Kors shirt, gorgeous Lanvin sandals, stylish and streamlined Boston bag by MCM, contemporary and striking Monica Vinader cuff and Burberry scarf that combines the colours of the entire look. In addition, Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in luminous fresh pink, a touch of brown mascara and polish in Beige leger would be ideal for achieving the no-make-up look.

Stylish quote

“Photoshop has destroyed photography. Today our image of beauty is over sleek and over retouched. All the drama has gone, it’s just brainless.”

Christy Turlington in the Catwalk documentary

Peter Lindbergh

I found this documentary last weekend after a series of attempts to get the actual video. Truly precious, the movie is a story filmed during a fashion season while cameras are following Christy Turlington in New York, Milan and Paris capturing her life both on the catwalk and during a few seldom moments of peace and quiet. Enjoy and savour.

P.S. You may notice that part 7 is missing here. Unfortunately, I cannot watch or use it in the UK, however you may be able to see it directly on youtube – just use “watch it on youtube” button after you finish part 6.
